Find Butts Civil Court Dockets

Civil cases in Butts County split between two courts. The clerk of Superior Court keeps one set of files, and Magistrate Court keeps its own, so your first step is figuring out where the case belongs before you search the Butts County civil court docket. A docket shows each filing, service, motion, hearing, and order in the case, plus how it ends. Start your Butts County civil docket search online if you like, but account gates and gaps in the web data mean a trip to the clerk's counter, a phone call, the public terminal, or a written request often works better. Domestic relations and other confidential matters may carry access limits too.

Butts Civil Case-Type Checklist

The local filing-information form maps out the whole range of Butts County civil docket categories. General civil covers automobile tort, civil appeal, contract, garnishment, general tort, habeas corpus, injunction or mandamus, real property, restraining petition, product liability, and medical malpractice. It also covers post-judgment work. Domestic relations adds adoption, divorce or separate maintenance, custody, paternity or legitimation, and support. It also adds family violence, modification, and contempt. That list is long. It shows how many shapes a civil filing here can take.

Remember what the checklist is. It describes filing classifications, not guaranteed access to every document behind them. It also keeps a Magistrate claim from landing on the Superior Clerk's desk just because both courts sit in Butts County.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

A Butts County civil court docket opens with identity fields. It logs procedural events as they happen. A calendar entry may list the court, calendar type, judge, date, time, and numbered entry. It may add case number, case style, cause, party roles, attorney name, or a pro se marker. Pro se means the party comes without a lawyer. Behind that calendar sits the fuller docket. It can add filing, service, answer, motion, mediation, discovery, hearing, order, judgment, dismissal, appeal, and disposition events.

Case numberThe local Superior identifier, with a calendar sample using YYYY-SU-V-NNNN.
Case styleThe caption naming the parties to the action.
CauseThe civil or domestic-relations case type.
Setting noteHearing type, service status, reset, or continuance information.
DispositionThe closing event and manner in which the case ended.

A docket line is not the pleading or order itself. Pull the actual document whenever its exact language, signature, or certification matters.

Butts Civil Filing and Disposition Forms

The Superior Clerk's forms page warns it does not carry every document a civil matter needs. On the filing form you'll give the case category, related cases, interpreter language, disability accommodation, and redaction compliance under O.C.G.A. §9-11-7.1. The disposition form captures self-representation, interpreter use, alternative-dispute-resolution referral, case identity, disposition date, and manner of disposition.

Related case
Another action connected to the filing and disclosed on the local form.
ADR
Alternative dispute resolution, such as a matter referred to mediation.
Redaction
Removal of protected identifiers from the public copy.
Disposition
The recorded way a case ended, whether by trial or without trial.

Filling out an information form is not the same as filing the complaint, answer, or order. If a form falls short of the task, use the Clerk's listed material. Get proper legal help rather than inventing a local form.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

Superior Court in Butts County carries a wide civil and domestic docket. The Clerk's own examples include divorce and separation, custody and visitation, paternity and legitimation, adoption, garnishment, and foreign judgments. Name changes and suits appear too. So do family-violence or stalking protective orders and habeas corpus. Some of these categories hold sensitive content. That applies even where a public docket shell exists.

Magistrate Court handles its own civil traffic. It takes claims up to $15,000, dispossessory actions, and garnishments. Its clerk sits in Suite 11 at the Judicial Center. The number is 770-775-8220. Probate matters, Juvenile files, and city proceedings have separate custodians too. In short, the office that accepted the filing holds the original civil docket.

Never guess the court from a party name. Read the pleading, calendar title, case prefix, or notice first. Then aim the request at that office. Larger or different civil claims may travel a route far from Magistrate Court.

Butts Civil Filing Fee Lines

Filing costs show up on the current Civil Division page. Most civil actions cost $218. Each Sheriff's Entry of Service adds $50. Cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover all work as payment for civil filing. Those numbers cover filing only. They are not a blanket price for a docket copy, document image, transcript, or certified copy.

For case examples and fee details, the official Butts County Civil Division page lays it out directly.

The fee ties to the clerk office that maintains the Superior civil docket. It says nothing about the current cost of every record product.

Before paying: Ask the Clerk for the exact product and current amount. Provider convenience copies and Clerk-certified copies are different products.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

For hearing dates, start at the Butts Superior calendar index. It lists civil non-jury calendars by judge. You also get a civil trial calendar, child-support settings, special-set hearings, and a circuit calendar. Think of it as a category list, not a search tool. You cannot query it by date, attorney, case number, or party. The PDFs change with each publication. Bookmark the index. Grab the newest file rather than an old copy.

Each setting on a Butts County civil docket calendar shows the date, time, judge, case style, cause, party roles, and counsel. A Note line often rides along. A non-jury label means the judge hears it alone, with no jury trial. A special set sits outside the regular calendar cycle. Neither label tells you the result. Read the Note line for service problems, hearing type, resets, or continuances, then check the setting against the docket and any order filed later. Call the Clerk for same-day changes or when a notice and the PDF disagree.

Butts Civil Calendar Note Lines

That Note line matters. It may reveal incomplete service, name the hearing type, or record a continuance. The calendar footer shows the print date. That date is not the hearing date, so note both while you check. A case placed on the civil trial calendar has a planned setting and nothing more. It does not prove a trial happened or that judgment was entered. A name missing from one PDF does not prove dismissal or sealing either.

Search the docket and scan later calendars. Then ask the Clerk for the filed order showing what the judge actually decided. Note: Calendar PDFs are publications. The docket and filed orders carry the full procedural record of the civil case.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 keeps Superior Court records open. Law or rule can still limit access. Any order limiting access must state which part of the file it covers. It must also give the part's nature, duration, and reasons. Rule 21.6 and O.C.G.A. §9-11-7.1 govern protected identifiers and redacted public copies. One redacted filing does not seal the whole docket.

Civil access rule: Adoption, Juvenile, protected-order, sealed, and privacy-protected material may be limited. Ask the proper custodian what part of a file is public.

The Georgia Open Records Act guide walks through public-record principles, exemptions, fees, and response duties. Butts County's Board of Commissioners Form 140 expressly does not obtain court records. Send a civil request straight to the Superior, Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, or municipal custodian that holds the file.

Missing Butts Civil Docket Results

A no-result screen has many causes. The court may be wrong, or a name or case number may be mistyped. Account gates, pending indexing, portal maintenance, confidentiality, redaction, or a sealing order can all hide a civil docket too. First confirm the court and the number. Then try another access channel or call the right clerk. One failed portal search never proves a civil case did not exist.

  • Use Icon or PeachCourt for the documented Superior online routes.
  • Check the category-based PDF index for a published setting.
  • Visit the Superior Clerk counter and ask about terminal access.
  • Call the Superior or Magistrate clerk for the proper case family.
  • Mail a direct request that names the desired docket or document.

The Clerk's online disclaimer is blunt: web data is not the official court record and may be incomplete or out of date. A filed judgment or certified record proves far more than a calendar entry. Once you have confirmed the court and number, the county's wider docket search routes can help you tell the available systems apart.
